Newkirk Chamber met at 6:00 p.m. for the monthly board meeting in the Chamber Office. Members present were: Roy Chaney, Theda Sheets, Marvin Johns, Dawn Brakey, and Debbie Leaming, along with Glenna Blair, secretary. Kirk Brown was absent. Debbie called the meeting to order. Minutes were approved after a motion by Dawn, seconded by Theda. Dawn moved that the financial report be accepted and Roy seconded the motion. Glenna gave the secretary’s report noting that Justin Beard will be printing new membership stickers. She has mailed out invoices to all members for 2019 dues. She delivered goody bags to the Newkirk Family Health Center and will schedule a date for a picture. We received complimentary tickets to the Tonkawa and Ponca City Chamber Banquets and Debbie volunteered to attend both. The Banquet was the main topic of Old Business. Debbie brought the tickets and is working on the program. She has decorations and offered to be the MC for the evening. She and Glenna are gathering items for the Silent Auction. The group decided on the menu which will be brisket and chicken, Au Gratin potatoes, and salad along with cobbler and ice cream for dessert. A list of those nominated for Citizen of the Year was handed out and board members decided on their choice as well as Business Person of the Year. Both of these will be announced and honored at the Banquet on the Jan. 22. Under new business, Debbie offered to go ahead and serve as president for 2019. Alyssa McCleery, Main Street Director, was a guest who did an exercise with the group on thinking about different aspects of our community such as strengths, threats, opportunities, & challenges. This is to go along with an activity that OK Main Street is working on with our local Main Street. Meeting was adjourned after a motion by Marvin seconded by Dawn.
