Meeting Minutes - 10/01/2018

10/1/2018

The Newkirk Chamber of Commerce met in the Chamber office for their monthly board meeting. Debbie Leaming, president, called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Those in attendance were board members Marvin Johns, Roy Chaney, Kirk Brown, & Theda Sheets, secretary Glenna Blair, and Pioneer Tech rep. Dawn Brakey. The minutes were approved on a motion by Roy and seconded by Theda. Marvin moved that the financial report be accepted and Theda made the second. Glenna gave the secretary’s report. She asked the board to approve ordering Halloween toys from Oriental Trading to hand out on Halloween to the Kindergarteners and also at Trunk or Treat. Roy moved to allow up to $50.00 and Theda seconded the motion which passed.

Under old business the group evaluated Charlie Adams Day. Our vendors were up a little but pop and water sales were down because of the cool weather and the crowd was down a little. There was discussion on what to do with the leftover pop and water and the group decided that we might want to sponsor an appreciation event for area police, fire personnel, and first responders. Debbie will check on a date with the City office. The Chamber will sponsor Trunk or Treat on the Court House parking lot on the 31st. Several businesses and churches will be participating. Debbie will get flyers to the school to go home with the kids. Glenna will get judges for the costume contest and Debbie will get the prizes. There was discussion on flowers to help beautify Main Street. Kirk had talked to the City about watering and they don’t have the manpower for that but they will consider purchasing nice pots. We could probably get business owners to help water along with the possibility of area clubs or organizations that need to do community service.

The annual Christmas Parade was discussed under new business. The theme this year will be “Magical Christmas”. It is scheduled for Saturday, December 1, at 6:00 p.m. Glenna will talk to the Choir director at school to see about the kids caroling.

Meeting was adjourned after a motion by Marvin, seconded by Theda.
